Sweet and Spicy Pepperoni Pizza

I’m back! If you saw on my instagram feed, I recently got married šŸ™‚ I didn’t anticipate taking a break from the blog, but wedding planning (especially in the last few weeks leading up to the big day!) kind of overtook my life for a little while.

I’m happy to say Andrew and I had an awesome wedding (I think I’ll share some pics when we get them back from the photographers!!) and now I’m back, married…and ready to tackle ALL THE FOOD.

SO – without further ado, onto the good stuff…

There’s a SUPER well-known pizza place in NYC called Emily. They’re famous for a couple dishes: a bomb burger being one and the other being a pizza they refer to as the Colony. If you follow any NYC foodie accounts on instagram, you’ve probably seen this pizza appear on your feed 1 million times (if you haven’t — take a look, then come right back!)

So, ever since having this pizza, I’ve wanted to recreate it at home. I knew full well that I could make my own dough with 00 flour, get some high quality fresh mozzarella, and seek out some mini pepperoni….but aint nobody got time for that!

I first just wanted to recreate the flavors that I loved so much: spicy from the pepperoni and jalapeƱo, and sweet from honey. Let me tell you — it may not be QUITE the same as the pizza at Emily, but it was pretty dang close!

Side note: I decided to try out my pizza stone on the grill — the results were FANTASTIC. I might only ever make pizza on the grill from now on….though the oven will work just fine!

Let your pizza dough come to room temperature, if refrigerated, for at least 20 minutes.

Preheat oven (or grill) to 450 degrees.

Place pizza stone in oven/grill.

While the pizza stone heats up, sprinkle a workspace with flour.

Roll the pizza dough to your desired shape and thickness. I made mine a classic circle – about 12 inches wide.

Remove the hot pizza stone from the heat and carefully place your dough onto the stone. It will start cooking right away.

Add pizza sauce, cheese, pepperoni and jalapeƱos.

Bake (or grill) the pizza for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is nice and brown.

While the pizza is still hot, drizzle with honey. I like a lot of honey, especially on the crust!

Let cool for a couple minutes and then slice and serve.

Enjoy!!

Makes: 2-3 servings (let’s be honest, I could eat this whole pizza…)

Prep: 10 minutes, Cook: 20 minutes, Total: 30 minutes

  • Store bought pizza dough (or make your own! This is my favorite recipe)

  • 1/4 cup (~20 slices) pepperoni
  • 10-15 sliced pickled jalapeƱos
  • 1-2 tablespoons honey, for drizzling
