Andrew and I were laying in bed the other day trying to figure out what to have for breakfast. It was a Sunday, and we have a version of these pancakes almost every week, but we were in the mood for something new and different.
We talked about different types of bread and scones when all the sudden Andrew comes out with “what about ‘everything bagel’ biscuits?”.
And with that alone, I was off to the kitchen (muttering under my breath why I hadn’t thought of this first?!)
Using a recipe from King Arthur Flour to get me started, we were eating warm and flaky ‘everything’ biscuits in just over 30 minutes.
As we ate them up, Andrew declared “these are the best yet!” 🙌🏼 (which is a comment I do NOT take lightly!)
This recipe makes 4-8 biscuits depending on what size you want.
NOTE: I would HIGHLY recommend making 4 large biscuits and using them for an incredibly delicious breakfast sandwich!
Preheat the oven to 425 F.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, everything seasoning and sugar. Don’t worry about the sugar making these sweet, they are savory all the way (the sugar helps round out the salty flavor)!
Working quickly, cut in 5 tablespoons of cold butter. You can use a pastry cutter or a couple of knives, or your hands. (Try to ignore this blurry screenshot from my instagram! I forgot to take a photo, I was so busy updating my stories!!)
Once the butter is in small pea-sized pieces, add in the milk.
Mix the milk into the dry ingredients and butter (I find it’s easiest to use my hands here) until the dough is barely formed into a shape.
Dump the mixture onto a flour-dusted surface.
Use your hands to form the dough into a rough square or circle. Only work with the dough for about a minute, it will still be very shaggy, but don’t worry!
If you want large biscuits (or to use them for breakfast sandwiches), cut into 4 even squares or triangles. If you’re making smaller biscuits, it will make 8.
Place the biscuits onto a baking sheet and drizzle with the melted butter. Finally, sprinkle each biscuit with a generous amount of everything seasoning.
For small biscuits, bake for 10-12 minutes, for larger biscuits, bake for 14-16 minutes…until the edges are lightly browned.
Serve immediately as-is or as the vessel for the best breakfast sandwich you’ve ever eaten!
