Cinnamon Square Marshmallow Treats

I’ve always been a savory breakfast person, and the recipes I make definitely reflect that! However, when I have a hankering for something sweet (but want to exert little effort as possible), I will reach for cinnamon cereal. This is the only cereal I buy, and usually after a bowl or two I’m satisfied for the year.

With the remaining cereal, I like to whip up these marshmallow square treats, which is the absolute easiest method to polish off the rest of the cereal within……a day if I’m being honest!

In a pot over low heat, slowly melt together the butter and 3/4 of the marshmallows. You want to use low heat here because it will result in soft treats (instead of the super-hurt-the-top-of-your-mouth-crunchy results if your heat is too high).

If you’re using regular-sized marshmallows, take the remaining 1/4 of the bag and cut into small pieces. If you’re using mini marshmallows – this part is already done!

Once the mixture is fully melted and combined, add in the cereal.

Mix until the cereal is mostly covered in ‘goo’.

Then, stir in the remaining marshmallows/marshmallow pieces.

Press (lightly) into a rectangular dish. Mine was about 8×10 — they’ll work in an 8×8, 9×9, or 9×13 (though will be thinner). You want to press lightly to keep them from becoming too crunchy (like with the high heat mentioned above).

Makes: 12 treats

Prep: 5 minutes, Cook: 10 minutes, Total: 15 minutes

  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 10 oz marshmallows (regular or mini), divided
  • 5 cups cinnamon square cereal (I used the trader joe’s brand)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
